Cheap Board Games. (04/28/2007)....
Let me rephrase that. Board games are cheap entertainment especially when you figure the price per hour of amusement you get from them. Any game you enjoy playing is worth its asking price unless of course you are buying a gold leaf with mother of pearl inlay editions signed by Elvis. What I am talking about is the right off the shelf games, most of which can be bought for $30 to $50 with a few specialty games getting into the $70+ range. You may at this point be thinking $50 for cardboard with some wood or plastic bits sounds I little high and the people spending $70 or more must be. Hold that thought while we do some math, not to worry I will do the math for you.
Lets say the game in question costs $30 takes up to 4 players and averages 1 hour to play. If you do play with the maximum players 10 times you are getting, here comes the math (4 players x 10 plays x 1 hour = 40 hours of entertainment) take the entertainment hours and divide that into the cost (3000 Cents / 40 E.H. = 75 Cents per hour) much more reasonable then a trip to your local theatre, but lets not compare apples and oranges I would never suggest giving up movie going. And it only gets cheaper as a game gets replayed over the years. A favorite game that you play regularly may produce hundreds or possibly even thousands of E.H. in a lifetime making even expensive games well worth the asking price.
All this does not even account for collectability and why some used games not even 20 years old are going for 5 times the original retail price on Ebay. But that is a subject for a later date.
