4 - Square A PyroMyth game for 2-6 players

Dec 9th, 2004

Unlike the playground game of the same name this is not a game of eliminating. It requires only a standard deck of playing cards without jokers.

Shuffled the deck and deal them into 4 piles in a 2x2 grid face down. Once all the cards have been dealt turn the piles over. Youngest player goes first and play continues clockwise.

On each players turn they take one of two actions.

  1. Take a card from one of the piles. They may not take the last one in any one pile. If only the four bottom cards are left then the players need to make any final match they have.

  2. Match a set. In doing this only the cards suite matters. The player needs to have cards that match the top cards on the stacks. Matched cards are set in that players scoring pile face down for the end of the game.

Once only the bottom 4 cards are the only remaining cards in the stacks each player may match one set if they like before final scoring including the player who took the last card.

Scoring

Each player should divide the cards they have scored by suite. The players score is the total cards taken - the number of cards in the suit they took the least of. In the event of a tie all players re calculate their score also subtracting the second highest suite.

Example 1:

Joe took 5 spades, 4 hearts, 3 diamond and 1 club. 13 cards - 1 for the club = 12

Example 2:

Tim took 5 spades, 5 hearts, 2 diamonds and 0 clubs. 12 cards - 2 for the Diamonds = 10
